Portable or split system air conditioner?

The two suit different situations:

A rough starting point is 0.125 kW per square metre, so about 2.5 kW for a 20 square metre room, adjusted up for west-facing rooms, big windows, high ceilings or poor insulation. Split system air conditioners must be installed by a suitably licensed and qualified installer, because the work involves refrigerant and electrical connections that are regulated in Australia — handling refrigerant requires the appropriate licence, and DIY installation can void your warranty as well as breach the rules.
