Privacy policy
Privacy Policy
This policy explains how Melbourne Home & Living collects, uses and protects your personal information when you visit our website or place an order. We handle your information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. By using our site, you agree to the practices described here.
What we collect
When you buy from us, we collect the personal details you give as part of that purchase — typically your name, delivery and billing address, email address and phone number. When you simply browse the site, we also automatically receive your device's IP address, which helps us understand the browser and operating system you're using so the site works properly for you. With your permission, we may occasionally email you about our store, new products and other updates.
How we use your consent
When you give us personal information to complete a purchase, verify a card, arrange delivery or process a return, we take it that you consent to us collecting and using it for that specific purpose. If we ever want to use your information for something separate, such as marketing, we'll either ask you directly or give you a clear way to decline. You can withdraw your consent at any time — to stop us contacting you, or to stop the ongoing collection or use of your information, just email us at cs@homeliving.net.au.
When we disclose information
We may share your personal information where the law requires it, or where you've breached our Terms of Service. If our business is ever sold or merged with another, your information may pass to the new owners so they can continue serving you.
Our platform — Shopify
Our store is hosted by Shopify Inc., which supplies the online platform we use to sell to you. Your data sits within Shopify's storage and databases on secure servers behind a firewall. If you pay through a direct payment gateway, Shopify stores your card data only as long as needed to complete your purchase, encrypted to the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS); once the transaction is done, that payment data is removed. All the major card brands — Visa, Mastercard, American Express and others — back the PCI-DSS framework, which helps keep card handling secure across our store and its providers. You can read more in Shopify's own Terms of Service and Privacy Statement.
Third-party services
The outside providers we work with generally only collect, use and disclose your information to the extent needed to do their job for us. Some — particularly payment gateways and processors — run under their own privacy policies, so we recommend reading those to understand how they handle your details. Bear in mind that some providers may operate from outside Australia, and once your information is with them or you leave our site for a third-party page, this policy no longer governs it. We're not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites, and we encourage you to read their statements.
Keeping your information secure
We take reasonable steps and follow industry practice to keep your personal information from being lost, misused, or accessed, altered or disclosed without authorisation. Card details you provide are encrypted using SSL and stored with AES-256 encryption. No method of transmitting or storing data online is completely secure, but we follow PCI-DSS requirements and other accepted standards to protect it as well as we reasonably can.
Cookies
Our site uses cookies so it can function and so we can understand how it's used. These include a session identifier that holds details of your visit, short-lived cookies used to count visits and unique visitors, a cookie that remembers what's in your cart for a couple of weeks, and, where the shop is password-protected, a cookie that checks whether you have access. You can choose to opt out of cookies through your browser settings if you prefer.
Age of consent
By using this site you confirm that you are at least the age of majority in your state or territory, or that you are of that age and have given consent for any minor in your care to use the site.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, so please check back periodically. Any changes take effect as soon as they're posted here. If we make a significant change, we'll note it on this page so you're aware of what we collect, how we use it, and when we might disclose it.
Questions and contact
If you'd like to access, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, raise a concern, or simply ask for more detail, please contact us at cs@homeliving.net.au or call 0412 607 153. You can also write to us at Melbourne Home & Living, 63 Gowrie St, Annerley QLD 4103.
