Collection: Arts & Crafts Toys

Arts and crafts toys let children create — with a kids art set for drawing, painting, making, sticking and colouring — building creativity through art and craft kids love. The right ones suit the child's age, from chunky crayons and simple sticker sets for toddlers to detailed childrens craft kits for older children. Craft play grows imagination, hand control and pride in making something. Think about the child's age, how much mess you can handle, and whether you want a guided kit or open-ended supplies.

What craft suits your child's age?

Match the craft to the child's coordination:

• Toddlers: chunky crayons, finger paints, large stickers and simple threading, with supervision.
• Preschoolers: colouring, safety scissors, playdough, and simple make-and-do kits.
• School age: detailed craft kits, jewellery making, sewing, painting and model kits.

Guided craft kit or open-ended supplies?

Both have their place. A guided craft kit comes with everything to make a specific thing — a set of coasters, a jewellery set, a model — which suits children who like a clear project and a finished result, and makes an easy gift. Open-ended supplies like paper, crayons, glue, paint and craft bits let a child make whatever they imagine, which stretches creativity further and lasts longer. For a child who likes direction, kits work well; for a free creative spirit, a stocked craft box gives endless play. Many children enjoy both — a kit for a rainy afternoon, supplies for everyday making.

What about the mess and safety?

Craft is gloriously messy, but a few things keep it manageable and safe. Washable paints, markers and glue clean off hands, clothes and surfaces far more easily — look for "washable" on the label. A wipe-clean mat or old tablecloth protects the table. For young children, choose non-toxic materials, chunky pieces with no choking hazards, and safety scissors, and supervise craft time. Aprons or old clothes save the good ones. Choosing washable, non-toxic supplies and setting up on a protected surface lets children create freely while keeping the mess and safety under control.
