Spray tan equipment — HVLP machines, tanning guns, tents and accessories, from our Australian warehouse.

2 of 6 products

Spray tan equipment applies a fine mist of tanning solution to the skin, giving colour without sun exposure. A typical setup is an HVLP machine with a spray gun, plus a tent to contain overspray. For a salon setup or mobile work, the machine's power, noise and portability matter. Think about how often you'll use it, whether you need to transport it, and the safety measures that go with spray application.

What equipment do you need for spray tanning?

A working setup usually includes:

  • HVLP machine and gun: high volume low pressure delivery, giving an even mist with less overspray than high-pressure systems.
  • Spray tan tent: a pop-up enclosure containing overspray, protecting the room and making cleanup manageable.
  • Extraction fan: drawing airborne mist away from the breathing zone.
  • Protective items: disposable caps, sticky feet, nose filters and barrier cream for the client.

Does a spray tan protect you from the sun?

No — and this is the most important thing to be clear about, because the misconception is common and genuinely risky. The active ingredient in tanning solution reacts with the outer layer of skin to produce colour, but that colour provides essentially no meaningful protection from ultraviolet radiation. A spray tan does not act as sunscreen, and skin with a spray tan burns just as readily as skin without one. In Australian conditions that matters a great deal. Anyone with a spray tan still needs sunscreen, clothing and shade for actual sun protection.

What safety measures does spray tanning need?

Because the solution is applied as an airborne mist, the main precautions are about avoiding breathing it in and keeping it out of the eyes and mouth. Regulators have advised that the active tanning ingredient shouldn't be inhaled or applied to the lips or the area around the eyes, since it's approved for external skin application rather than for these uses. Practically that means using nose filters, protective eyewear and lip protection for the client, ventilating the room or using extraction, and wearing a suitable mask yourself if you're spraying regularly. Contain overspray in a tent.

Common questions

Does a spray tan protect against sunburn?
No — a spray tan provides essentially no protection from UV, and skin burns just as easily with one. You still need sunscreen, clothing and shade for real sun protection.

What is an HVLP spray tan machine?
High volume low pressure, which delivers solution as an even mist at lower pressure, producing less overspray and a smoother finish than high-pressure systems.

What protection does a client need?
Nose filters, protective eyewear and lip protection, since the solution shouldn't be inhaled or applied to the lips or eye area. Barrier cream on hands, feet and dry areas prevents patchiness.

Do I need a tent for spray tanning?
A tent contains overspray, protecting the room and making cleanup far easier. It also helps concentrate extraction, which matters for keeping airborne mist away from the breathing zone.

Can I pay for spray tan equipment with Afterpay?
Yes. You can split it with Afterpay, Zip, Klarna or PayPal Pay in 4. Our spray tan equipment starts from $31, which is four fortnightly payments of $7.75.
